Show your mum just how much admire her courage, strength and character—that which makes her special—with a brand-new figurine from Willow Tree – a meaningful gift for Mother’s Day.
Butterfly stands at 16.5cm tall and costs £34.00. The figure’s skirt is carved in the pattern of a monarch butterfly, a metaphor that represents the qualities of resilience, determination, courage and beauty. These are traits of strong female role models, like mothers and other maternal figures, which give them the ability to transform their own lives and make a positive difference in the world.
So much so, artist Susan Lordi said:
“When I think of the monarch butterfly, I am reminded of courage and strength in the face of adversity. A magical metamorphism from tiny egg to hungry caterpillar to a brilliant chrysalis spotted with gold, the butterfly finally emerges a dazzling beauty.
“Delicate and fragile, yet determined and resilient, it forges its way for hundreds of miles along a migration route of obstacles and erratic weather patterns, compelled to complete its miraculous journey.”
Inspired by nature, Lordi gains inspiration for her carvings from the great outdoors, and Butterfly is no exception. Butterfly is a true metaphor for the desire in each of us to be our best, to live resiliently, to thrive and to make a difference.
Like all Willow Tree figurines, artist Susan Lordi hand-carves the original figure from her studio in Kansas City, Missouri. The pieces are then cast from her original carvings. Simplicity of form and the absence of facial features signify Willow Tree. Expression is revealed through gestures only. It is Susan’s hope that these pieces be meaningful to both giver and receiver.
